Healing Guide
Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential to protecting your investment and keeping your tattoo looking its best for years to come. Follow these instructions carefully.
Day 1 — Right After Your Session
- ►Leave the bandage or wrap on for 2-4 hours (or overnight if using second-skin wrap).
- ►When removing, wash gently with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap.
- ►Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.
- ►Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or Aquaphor.
- ►Let it breathe — avoid re-wrapping unless your artist instructs otherwise.
Days 2–7 — The First Week
- ►Wash 2-3 times daily with fragrance-free soap.
- ►Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion after each wash.
- ►Do not pick or scratch at any flaking or peeling skin.
- ►Avoid soaking the tattoo (no baths, pools, hot tubs, or ocean).
- ►Keep it out of direct sunlight.
- ►Wear loose, breathable clothing over the area.
Weeks 2–4 — The Healing Phase
- ►Continue moisturizing 1-2 times per day.
- ►Peeling and itching is normal — do not scratch.
- ►Avoid sun exposure. Use SPF 50+ once fully healed.
- ►The tattoo may look dull or cloudy during this phase — that is normal.
- ►Full healing typically takes 4-6 weeks for the outer layer.
Long-Term Care
- ►Always apply sunscreen (SPF 50+) to tattooed skin in the sun.
- ►Keep skin moisturized to maintain vibrancy.
- ►Avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds.
- ►Stay hydrated — healthy skin holds ink better.
When to See a Doctor
Redness, swelling, and soreness in the first few days is normal. If you experience excessive swelling, oozing yellow/green discharge, hot skin, red streaking, or fever, contact a medical professional immediately as these may be signs of infection.
